Ingredients
4 small-to-medium apples
2 star anise
1 t cinnamon
1 t vanilla essence
0.25 C sugar
750 ml water (approximately)

Boil a kettle with around 750ml of water. Peel the apples and slice them into 4-6 slices.
Place the apples and other ingredients into a saucepan. Pour boiling water over the top until the apples are just covered. Bring the pot to the boil. Turn down the heat and simmer for 5-7 minutes until the apples are tender.
Drain and serve.
